April 22, 2010 marked Gaia Bag’s second annual Whole Foods Market Earth Day event where a total of 10,000 free canvas shopping bags have been distributed to Whole Foods Market customers. This year’s program includes a $1050.00 donation to the Whole Planet Foundation.

Gaia Bag is committed to donating 25 cents for every bag made to the Whole Planet Foundation. Gaia Bag’s business model is based on conscious capitalism. “Every business decision considers the impact on the environment and our global society, including our choice of a green certified manufacturer that started as a non-profit to employ impoverished women from a remote village near Rahajastan, India”, said Vicki Scataglini.

The Gaia Bag Earth Day program is simple! Store vendors sponsor the free customer bags, covering the manufacturing costs. In return, their logo along with Whole Foods Market is displayed on the bags. On Earth Day, Whole Foods Market cashiers bag up the groceries in free Gaia canvas shopping bags. It’s a win-win for all!

It is the dream of Vicki Scataglini and her daughter, Julia to broaden their reach to every Whole Foods Market store across the US and raise $100,000 annually for the Whole Planet Foundation at this 1 day a year event.
